The electronic signature: what is it?
The electronic signature is a technical and legal process enabling individuals to give consent and approval to digital documents.
More than just an image or a drawing, this tool complies with conditions and standards set and controlled by European and French authorities.
An electronic signature must fulfill at least those three following criteria:
- The identity of the person who is signing,
- A proof of consent of the signer
- The guarantee of the document integrity, meaning the content has to be frozen in time.
The electronic signature is part of a precise legal environment in Europe via the eIDAS (Electronic IDentification And Trust Services) regulation and in France via its transcription in articles 1366 and 1367 of the civil code.
